I'm finally graduating to an adult bed. I am a twin bed man no more. Gone are the days where women come over and they laugh at me and then have to sleep on the couch. I've been wanting to upgrade to a full for years now but have dragged my feet, but with. you know. current politics I figured it was gonna get a whole lot more expensive very soon so I'm finally biting the bullet.
Oh my god, though, it is not easy to find something that works for me. I have chronic back pain that I'm not looking to make worse, so I have to make sure that the bed is of at least middling quality. Also, apparently a lot of mattresses are made of fiberglass? I'm asthmatic and neurotic to a probably pathological degree, so I've woken up every night this past week having nightmares of inhaling glass and coughing to death. so gotta make sure to get a glass free one. The price keeps bumping up and up and if what I get doesn't last I'm going to consider arson
My mom took me to a local mattress store the other day, and we tried literally the most comfortable bed I've ever laid on. It was 1.6k which is pricey, definitely, but it was soooo nice that I was willing to splurge. But then I asked the salesperson how much it cost and he said 4k and the 1.6k was for the bed frame. I'm so sad. I ended up finding another one that fit my needs and budget there at least. Thank goodness for my mom whose brain doesn't shut off when she talks to salespeople because her questions helped guide the process a lot- I know myself and know that otherwise I'd be talked into a shit mattress that'd fall apart in a year just to stop dealing with shopping stress.
But finding a mattress isn't enough because you have to get a bed frame too. The salesperson was like "This is my favorite kind! It's really expensive but so worth it :)" and I am unemployed as hell so I asked for the cheap options. He showed me just, like, a plywood plank with legs and said that it wasn't cool or fashionable but it was affordable and got the job done and do you know how much it cost? four hundred dollars. highway robbery.
The internet, after I did a lot more spiraling over fears that any frame I got would collapse and ruin my new bed and maybe, if I was really unlucky, crush my cat, led me to an online manufacturer that sells actually affordable ones made of unfinished wood, so I'm gonna get one of those and sand and stain it with my dad. I'm glad I found that because I was honestly so close to driving myself to the home improvement store and attempting to build one myself to likely disastrous results.
I've made all the orders so all that needs to happen now is finishing the frame once it gets here, and then completely rearranging my room so all the furniture fits. That'll be annoying but I've already mapped out the floor plan so even if my parents don't believe me I can definitely fit everything in there. but it's such a relief that the shopping part is over. and soon I won't have to banish guests to the couch. yay :)
Completely unrelated but I also got my ears pierced! I've been itching for a new body mod since I got my last tattoo two or three years ago, but I haven't had any tattoo ideas despite thinking about it since I was literally in the chair getting my last one done. Getting a second ear piercing required so much less thought. It hurt really badly though lol. Based on pain alone I'd much rather go through another seven hour tattoo session than get another piercing. But it's done, and the results are really cute!! I'm really happy with them.
anyway if I never have to buy another bed (I will :/) it'll be too soon
